Pokemon Go is King of the Apps no more.
Niantic’s location-based monster-hunting game was dethroned as the highest-grossing app in Apple’s US app store after 74 days as the champion, Sensor Tower, a research group, said Tuesday in a blog post.
The monster game has pulled in $440 million in gross revenue in Apple’s marketplace and Google’s Play store, Sensor Tower said.
Still, Pokemon Go’s run at the top of Apple’s charts wasn’t history making. Clash of Clans was No. 1 for 347 days. Candy Crush Saga led the pack for 109 days.
Clash Royale, a strategy game released by Supercell earlier this year, displaced Pokemon Go. Sensor Tower credited Clash Royale’s resurgence to an update that sent “players into a spending frenzy.”
San Francisco-based Niantic pointed to the health of Pokemon Go.
“We recently revealed that Pokemon Go has been downloaded more than 500 million times since launch, with several more countries yet to be added,” said a spokesperson for the company. “This growth has been entirely organic and we are quite happy with the massive number of ongoing users and game revenues and look forward to building and improving the game over many years.”
Pokemon Go has been a sensation, absorbing players throughout the summer. Some players have become so involved in the game that they’ve forgotten their children in the real world. It’s even inspired a wave of cheating.
