Weekend Whammy: Getting Dirty & Training Dragons

I’m getting old for this Saturday night drinking malarkey. I’m old before my time, I guess. So let’s keep this short and sweet, shall we?

This week I put out my review of DiRT Rally 2.0 which I freaking loved! As we near launch I’m getting pretty excited to test out my skills on the Rallycross tracks against everybody else. By which I mean I’m excited to inevitably lose a lot.

I also reviewed a PS VR title by the name of Intruders: Hide and Seek wherein you play as a young lad trying to deal with three strangers who have broken into the house. It has a couple of good points and the VR does enhance the experience, but as I said in the review it made me constantly wish for an official Alien Isolation VR patch.

I’ve been sinking some serious time into Crackdown 3, too. And do you know what? It’s actually not bad. It’s certainly not great, but I think it might have got harsher reviews than it truly deserves. Though it has issues with repetitive mission design, lack of story and more there is a mindless sense of fun to the game. Anyway, full review coming soon.

I’m also in the middle of playing Bannermen, an RTS that looks and feels like it was ripped straight out of the 90’s. Still not sure if that’s a good thing or not. I’m a fan of the classic RTS design, but because of that very same design Bannermen doesn’t have much to offer. A review of Bannermen will turn up at some point.

By this point I had hoped to have started playing Anthem, but the company I ordered it with didn’t get it here for launch. With any luck it’ll turn up tomorrow and I can see what all the disappointment is for myself. I mean, did you see Angry Joe’s review of Anthem? Ooft.

But what I really wanted to quickly chat about is that I went to see How to Train your Dragon 3 today and loved every minute of it! The first two films stand as some of my favourite movies of all time, but trilogies can be a difficult thing to pull off. There’s always the risk of the final film failing to deliver the goods. But by God, this movie was such a fitting, strong finale that told a fun story, hit some emotional moments and ended by delivering true closure. I don’t mind admitting there were nearly a few tears when the credits finally rolled. I think I’m going to do a Random Loot on it, so keep an eye out for that.

Right, I’m going to sign off for now and try to recover from my night out. Take care everyone.
