Alternatively referred to as Control 2 and C-2, Ctrl+2 is a shortcut key most often used to switch to the first tab in a browser or other program with tab support.
How to use the Ctrl+2 shortcut key
To use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl+2, press and hold either Ctrl key on the keyboard and while continuing to hold, press the “2” key with the same hand or the other hand.
The “2” used with this shortcut is the “2” at the top of the keyboard and not on the numeric keypad.
Ctrl+2 in Microsoft Excel
In Microsoft Excel and all other spreadsheet programs, pressing Ctrl+2 bolds or removes bold from text in a cell.
Using Ctrl+2 in an Internet browser
With all major Internet browsers (e.g., Chrome, Edge, Firefox), pressing Ctrl+2 switches to the first tab.
If you only have one tab open, pressing Ctrl+2 does nothing.
