What is a PWA (Progressive Web Application)?

Short for progressive web application, a PWA is a type of web application that shares characteristics with natively installed programs and apps. PWAs can run on supported browsers on any platform, including Windows, macOS, Chrome OS, and Linux computers, along with Android and iOS smartphones. Capabilities of progressive web applications include device-wide notifications, peripheral access, and the ability to use the application without Internet access.
